Deleting my account and data
How to download your data and delete your account yourself, what is erased and what stays, and how to change your mind.
Your data is yours. You can delete your account yourself at any time, with no need to write to us.
The steps
- If you want a copy of your data, download it first: Download my data.
- Open your profile, then Privacy, and press Delete my account.
- Enter your password and type DELETE to confirm.
What happens next?
- Your account is switched off at once and you are signed out everywhere. You get an email with the date.
- It is erased after 14 days. If you change your mind, sign in again before then and the deletion is cancelled.
- Erased: your login, email, phone, picture and profile details, and everything you wrote or uploaded (posts, photos, comments, messages, legacy messages, events and results), with the files.
- Stays: your name, relations and life dates in the tree as a relative without an account, so your relatives' tree is not broken (a family admin can remove it). Group records such as savings circles, and payment records, also stay without your personal details.
If you created a family
The oldest other admin with an account becomes its creator, inherits its plan and is told. If nobody else has an account in it, the family is deleted with your account. Your profile page shows exactly what will happen before you confirm. If you are the one who inherited a family, see I inherited a family.
