Family academy: write a course or learn from relatives

Short courses written by your relatives: lessons with text, a picture, a video link and a PDF, with progress tracking, a family certificate and a reminder to start.

In the Family academy relatives pass their knowledge on: Grandma's recipes, business basics, anything someone knows well. Only your family tree sees the courses.

Write a course

  1. Press Write a course and enter a title and a short summary (people aged 18 and over).
  2. Add the lessons: each has text, and optionally a picture (you can crop it), a video link (a YouTube link shows inside the lesson; videos are never uploaded here) and a PDF up to 5 MB. Reorder the lessons with the arrows.
  3. Press Publish the course (it needs at least one lesson). The first time, it is announced on the family wall automatically (untick it if you prefer). Before that only you see it, and you can stop publishing at any time.

As the author you see who joined and how far they got, and you get a notice when someone finishes it.

Learn

Open a course and press Start. At the end of each lesson press Done, next lesson to count your progress. Your courses are under "I am learning" and "Completed".

The reminder

If you joined a course and did not start within two days, or you stopped for a week, you get at most one reminder a week to start or continue, and none for a course you finished. You can switch reminders off in Notification settings.

The certificate

When you finish every lesson you get a certificate of completion with your name, the course, its author and the date, which you can print. It is a family certificate, not an accredited degree or an official qualification.

Safety

Pictures and files open only for people of your tree. You can report any inappropriate course. Family admins can remove courses, which is recorded in Family activity. This is a paid plan module, free during the founding-family period (Plan and payment).
