Recording that a family member passed away
Only the tree admin records a death, after a confirmation: a condolence post goes up and legacy messages reach their recipients.
Recording a death is a sensitive decision, so only the tree's creator or an admin they appointed can do it.
Steps
- Open the person's card, then Edit, and type the date of death.
- A confirmation shows the name and date. Nothing is saved until you confirm.
- After confirming, a condolence post goes up on the family wall, and the people the person left legacy messages for are told they have arrived. See legacy messages.
Notes
- A death older than 60 days is saved quietly with no post, as when entering grandparents.
- A future date is not accepted.
- People who are not admins are told this is the tree admin's decision.
